Hi! I’m Curt Montague, Webmaster here at the Montague Family Association
I don’t keep a close eye on the site and usually do the bulk of the editing in short bursts of energy. I am available every day to answer your questions, or direct you to someone who will be able to help you. My primary e-mail address is firstname.lastname@example.org. I can also be found at our group Facebook page at “Montague Family Association” where we encourage everyone to add information and discuss family history. When you post a comment on a page on this site, it may take me a week, or 10 days to send an answer, so by far, anything requiring my attention should be sent by e-mail.
Our MFA historian Robert V. Montague III has won awards for his two volume set of books “The History and Genealogy of Peter Montague of Jamestowne, Virginia 1603-2003” His books were reviewed in the New England Genealogical Society’s Quarterly review that came out recently, and can be viewed from the link below. We are very proud to have Robert on our team at the MFA. We know this has been a work of passion that many people would have abandoned long before completion. Robert will be our keynote speaker at the family reunion coming up on July 30, 2015. We hope you came to meet him and see his presentation.
This website is the product of, and a sound overview, of the Montague Family Association. Our Historian is Robert V. Montague III of Navarro, Fla. Robert has devoted much of the last 13 years of his life researching the life and descendents of Peter Montague b.1603. In this site and in our communications referred to, as Peter1. Robert has produced a book of his research, “The History and Genealogy of Peter Montague of Jamestowne, Virginia 1603-2003” The two volume set is a bit over 3000 pages. He has corrected many of the mistakes that appeared in the 1886 family history, “The History and Genealogy of the Montague family in America” You will frequently find references to HGMFA when discussing the Montague family history with family members. This website uses some tidbits from Robert’s books to give a taste of the information contained in his books. The only way to get the BIG PICTURE is to purchase the books. If you have specific questions we will try to answer them and guide you to information.
The other side of the coin is Richard Montague who emigrated to Massachusetts in America, in 1641. He was a founding father of Hadley, Ma in 16__. Our resident expert on Richard1 is also a Richard Montague and resides in Ebenhausen, Germany. He also has spent many years researching the Richard 1 line.
Between these two gentlemen resides most of the known history of the Montague family in America. By joining and supporting the MFA you can help them carry their research further into history, and gain access to that information.
Please look around our website and see if you find something new and exciting about your family history.
OK, Folks, it time to decide where the 2015 Montague Worldwide Family Reunion will be held. The 2010 event was held in Williamsburg, Va. We had a very nice time and learned a lot about organizing an entertaining and educational reunion. 2015 is approaching and it’s time to get some input, and pick a great place for the Montagues to congregate. Currently we are looking at dates after the school year has ended and before the new one starts, namely June-August, 2015. Sorry to our overseas family, but we will be having this party in the USA. So, speak up in the comments on where you think the reunion should be and maybe make a few comments as to why it should be there. Even if you’re not sure right now that you can make it, we appreciate your input. The location needs to be a place that holds Montague history and some significance to the Montague family. We also want a place with entertainment value for the whole family. We need everyone to chime in with good ideas. In the end the board will decide the best place out of all the suggestions. There may be some very good places that we are unaware.
Here are some places that have been suggested:
Williamsburg/ Jamestowne, Va. (Ancestral home of the Peter Montague line)
Hadley, Ma. (Ancestral home of the Richard Montague line)
Hampton Va. ( We have a volunteer to organize the reunion here)
Lees Summit, Mo.
Branson, Mo. (I can’t find any link to Montague history with Branson)
Salt Lake City, Ut. (Home of the largest genealogical library in the USA)
