Minutes July 28, 2014

Minutes of MFA Meeting, July 28, 2014
• The meeting was called to order at 7:41 p.m., EST. In attendance were Jo Anne St. Clair,
President; Suzanne Hamilton, Secretary; Curt Montague, Treasurer; & Robert V. Montague,
Historian.
• The minutes from the June 3, 2014 meeting were reviewed and approved.
• Treasurer’s report: Not much change in the report; we started the month with $1,163.14 in
our account. We spent $40.00 to the Kansas Secretary of State for the corporation fee. We
now have $1,123.14 in our account.
• The Treasurer’s report was approved as submitted.
• There was no President’s report.
• Robert V. Montague reported that the latest newsletter had been sent out as of July 27, 2014
which included an article from Richard W. Montague of Germany.
• The discussion turned to the 2015 reunion. It had been decided at the previous meeting to
hold it in Virginia but the venues had not been finalized. Robert V. proposed that Robert L.
Montague’s properties in Urbanna & Alexandria, VA, be included since the luncheon at
“Sandwich” had been so pleasant in 2010.
• Robert V. also mentioned the possibility of adding a tour of the “Historic Triangle”
(Jamestown/Yorktown/Williamsburg) to the itinerary.
• Various venues were discussed as the “base” of the reunion with the Hampton History
Museum being foremost.
• Suzanne Hamilton was tasked with touching base with that museum & with coming up
recommended excursions for reunion participants.
• Robert V. offered to come up with an agenda for the reunion, the centerpiece of which
would be a reception & Board meeting.
• Suzanne offered that her thoughts were to have a welcoming lunch/reception at the
Hampton History Museum followed by a Board meeting/election of new officers followed by
a presentation by museum curator Michael Cobb on the Battle of Big Bethel, led by Edgar
Montague in 1821.
• Robert V. liked this idea & proposed that he would be responsible for making arrangements
in Jamestown(e) & Williamsburg, Suzanne would be responsible for Hampton & Yorktown, Jo
Anne would be responsible for the reception/Board meeting arrangements & Curt would take
charge of field trips to Urbanna, Alexandria & Lancaster County, VA destinations.
• Various dates, participant preferences & locations were discussed & Robert V. reminded
everyone of the purpose of the MFA reunion: “Let’s stay focused on the primary purpose for
a family reunion. We are not a “family” of close relatives getting together. We are an
association of Montagues that we want to bring together our cousins genealogically speaking.
We need to review our charter and make sure we are implementing the charter’s goals. The
rest of the venues are a chance to show off Montague history.” He then offered to develop a
proposed 3-day agenda for the reunion.
• A motion was made that the reunion take place July 30 – August 2, 2015. The motion was
seconded & approved.
• There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:14 p.m. EST.
Respectfully submitted,
Suzanne Hamilton
Secretary
